Dr. Naiyu Wang joined the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma in 2013. She earned her Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Structural Engineering, from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, in 2010.

Dr. Wang’s research interests include applications of statistics and probability in civil engineering; structural safety and reliability; reliability-based condition assessment; performance-based design, renewal and rehabilitation; risk-informed sustainable decisions for civil infrastructure; resilience of civil infrastructure systems; analysis and mitigation of competing hazards and risks; and impact of climate change on risk mitigation of civil infrastructure exposed to natural hazards. Dr. Wang’s teaching interests include Structural Reliability and Risk-informed Decisions, Probability and Statistics in Civil Engineering, Structural Loads, Performance-based Structural Design.

Dr. Wang currently serves a member and secretary of the Subcommittee on Strength Design (Load Combinations) of the ASCE Standard 7 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures (since 2011) and a member of the ASCE/SEI Technical Council on Life-Cycle Performance, Safety, Reliability, and Risk of Structural Systems (since 2011). Before joining the OU faculty, she worked as a senior structural engineer for nearly three years at Simpson, Gumpertz & Heger, Inc. and was involved in projects concerning a variety of engineered facilities (nuclear power plants, water distribution pipelines, radio telescopes, wind turbines, and buildings and bridges).
